Verdigris’ Lizzie Garza

Sophomore Lizzie Garza is hoping to lead Verdigris to the Class 3A playoffs in soccer, and maybe more.
But she also wants to cherish all the moments she can with those around her.
“This year my goal for soccer is to get to the playoffs and win a state championship,” Garza said. “I look forward to spending time with my teammates and friends. Soccer has been a big part of my life and I love growing together as a team.”
An honorable mention all-district selection a season ago and now a first-year starter, Garza has benefited from her time as a freshman.
“Since last season the biggest thing I’ve improved is my mentality and the strategy of the game,” she said. “This year I feel like I’ve had more experience playing and understanding the game.
Garza’s versatility and speed have given her advantages.
“My biggest strength on the field is my speed. Also, I’ve played multiple positions like outside defender, sweeper, and outside mid,” she said.
Garza’s biggest influence comes from within her family.
“My biggest influence has been my dad. He’s been there for me the whole time I’ve played soccer. He’s always pushed me to be better and is someone I look up to,” said Garza, who is also competing in track for the Cardinals for the first time this year.

Following high school, Garza has plans on attending college where she is hopeful to continue her soccer career.
“After Highschool I plan to go to college. If the opportunity came, I would love to play soccer in college,” she said. “Maybe track too, but this is my first year doing it. I’ve been to multiple Elite ID camps to keep my options open.”
