Vinita’s Bodee Carter
By Trina Walker
Vinita High School has a rich history of basketball. Bodee Carter is dedicated to continuing this tradition through his hard work and effort on the court. He was introduced to organized basketball in the first grade. However, it was attending coach Roach’s camps in kindergarten that truly started his love of the sport.
Bodee is a senior who primarily plays point guard but can also play the shooting guard or small forward position. “I enjoy point guard because of the leadership that it requires and the control I have over the offense,” he says.
Two valuable lessons stand out. “Basketball has taught me that when things are going your way, do not be too prideful. When things are not going how you would like, it is not the end of the world,” Bodee says.
In sports you must be able to pull yourself up. “The best advice anyone has given me is that at the end of the day no one feels sorry for you, so you might as well put in the work,” said Bodee.
“ ”The collective effort to succeed is what Bodee likes most about being on a team. “Everyone must buy in if you want to win,” he says. This effort led to Bodee’s favorite memory. Freshman year his team made a run for the state tournament through area consolation by winning five games in six days.
A former teammate he looks up to is Paul Glasscock. “He left the biggest impression on me due to the impact he had on every game he played and how poised he remained,” said Bodee.
Bodee wants to thank his grandparents and mom for being there every step of his athletic career. “My mom inspires me because she gives me the confidence and belief that I can do some things I may think I can’t,” he said.
Playing sports is an important part of Bodee’s life but sometimes everyone needs a break. For Bodee this would be a ski trip to Switzerland. He had such a good time with all ‘the boys’ from last year’s ski trip, skiing in Switzerland would be an amazing time.
