Vinita’s Sara Hency
When the Lady Hornets of Vinita High School take the court this season, one player looking to continue her great career on the court is Sara Hency.
Vinita head coach Nathan Wylie said Hency is a “strong post player with good touch.” A big compliment for the 5-foot-11 junior power forward.
“She can shoot from the outside and handle the ball as well. She can be very dominate at times,” said coach Wylie.
Hency said she loves how her teammates embrace the grind and put in the work to ensure they are at their best when they step onto the court.
“I love how we work as a team and always stay positive,” Hency said. “Lauren [Fraley] keeps everyone laughing and I think Emma [Pigeon] is the most serious.”
“ ”With a tough schedule ahead, Hency said there is one place she always loves to play.
“I like playing on my home court and I don’t think there is a place that is tough because I enjoy playing everywhere,” said Hency.
Outside of basketball, Hency belongs to the FFA chapter at school as well as the Spanish Club and Art Club. Away from school you can usually find her with her family and her animals.
“I enjoy messing with my show calves and hanging out with friends and family,” said Hency.
The junior said her father has been a big influence in her life, on and off the court.
“My dad has been a big influence on and off the court. He always pushes me to do better,” said Hency.
Once her playing days at VHS come to an end, Hency said she plans to attend college and pursue a degree.
“I plan to go to SWOSU and pursue a doctorate in Pharmacy.”
