Wyandotte’s Jaxson Billings
There are many reasons why student-athletes love competing and representing their schools. For Wyandotte High School sophomore Jaxson Billings, it’s all about the support he and the team receive from everyone involved.
“One thing that makes Wyandotte a great place for student-athletes is the support we receive from coaches and teachers. Our coaches understand that we have academic responsibility, and our teachers understand we participate in extracurricular activities,” Billings said. “The support I get from my parents, coaches, and fans means a lot to me. My parents are my biggest cheerleaders, and my coaches are always there for me. The fans aren’t there to watch me specifically but the entire Wyandotte athletics program, which I’m grateful to be a small part of.”
Billings started competing in track when he was in the sixth grade. Now he is competing in the 800 and 1600-meters as well as the 4X400 and 4X800 relay events. Billings works hard to be at the top of his game.

“My favorite event is the 800-meter run. I began running it in 8th grade. As a freshman I improved my time from 2:20 to 2:05. While I’ve never been the fastest, my competitive nature gives me an edge. I rely on my kick to win most races which suits my skill set and helps me push past other runners,” said Billings.
Billings said he loves his teammates and competing with them at meets.
“My teammates are everything to me. We do almost everything together and the friendships I have made in high school will last a lifetime,” said Billings.
His faith is a source of inspiration as Billings prepares to compete and look forward to life after high school.“My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has always been my inspiration. He is the only reason I am what I am today,” Billings said. “The goal for life after high school is to go to college for a degree, then get a job to support my family. I’m not sure exactly what I want to do yet, but I’ve still got some time to decide.”
