Wyandotte’s Makenzi Carriger

Wyandotte High School senior Makenzi Carriger is a varsity softball player and a member of STUCO, BPA, National Honor Society and SMAC. The third baseman said she started playing the sport in middle school and loves being part of this team.

“I love that it always feels like a family, and I feel like being around them forever, especially my senior class, I feel like I have gained lifelong friendships and I also feel like I have gained 18 sisters,” said Carriger.

Carriger said she’s learned a lot from her former upperclassmen including how to enjoy the moment.

“Something that I have learned from my upperclassmen from the past, they have said enjoy it while it lasts because it goes by fast,” said Carriger.

The senior said she finds inspiration in those she is closest to in life.

“If I had to name the biggest inspiration in my life I couldn’t pick just one. It would be my mom and my dad. They both have so many different qualities that have helped me through a lot and have made me who I am today. My mom with her caring and loving heart and always supporting me through everything. My mom is also loyal and incredibly strong,” Carriger said. “My dad with his drive and determination, he has always been a model of perseverance and grit. But it’s not just his work ethic that inspires me, it’s also his heart. He is always ready to defend me and be there for me no matter what I need. They have both taught me that real inspiration doesn’t come from perfection it comes from effort, heart and showing up even when things are tough.”

Carriger said she enjoys running her small business but is not sure what her plans are after she graduates.

“I am not completely sure on what I would like to do yet. But I am hoping to either go get my business degree and own my own small business or go and get my degree in physical therapy,” said Carriger.

As for her favorites in school, Carriger said Mr. Roberston’s history class is not your typical course.

“He makes the material interesting with real-world connections and interactive discussions that actually make you want to participate,” said Carriger.
