Junior distance runner Ally Martin has become a quiet pace-setter for the Pryor High School Lady Tigers, leading not just with times on the track but with discipline that teammates see every day at practice. A varsity athlete in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters, she embraces the grind of distance running and the responsibility that comes with being a tone-setter for the program.
“I see myself as someone who sets the tone through consistency and effort,” Martin said. “Distance running is built on discipline, and I try to model that every day in practice. I bring a strong work ethic, a competitive mindset, and a willingness to do anything that will help our team improve.”
As a sophomore, Martin finished in the top 10 in the state in both of her events, a milestone that still fuels her as she enters another season in blue and gold. “One accomplishment I’m proud of is finishing top 10 in the state in both my events as a sophomore,” she said. “It reflected all the work I put in and motivated me to be higher on the podium each year.”
Track has become more than just a sport for Martin; it has shaped how she approaches everyday life. “My sport has taught me discipline and to never give up on my goals,” she said. “I’ve learned success doesn’t happen overnight; it’s built through putting in the effort every single day. I’ve learned how to stay committed when progress feels slow, and it’s given me a mindset that carries over into my life.”
In the classroom, Martin points to Coach Lo, her teacher during her sophomore and junior years, as a key influence. “She has had an impact on me because she pushes her students to do their best and holds them to high standards,” Martin said. “She’s taught me the importance of accountability and effort, which carries over into running as well.”
Martin draws inspiration from her family and her faith, as well as from former teammate Caiti White, whose example still drives her. “Her work ethic and commitment is incredible, and she always showed up and gave 100 percent,” Martin said of White. “Watching her push herself and encourage others has motivated me to be a better teammate and a better runner.”
“My favorite part about representing my school is giving my best for something bigger than myself,” Martin said. “I love being a part of a team where everyone encourages each other. It reminds me to work hard and honor God in everything I do.”
