OUTLOOK

Coach Belinda Burk accomplished something no previous volleyball coach at Chouteau-Mazie High School could accomplish. She took her team to the state tournament. Coming off the success of last season, coach Burk and the Wildcats are building off that success.

“Coming off our first state appearance in school history we are looking forward to a strong season with four returning starters and upcoming players. We have the ability to be strong hitters in every rotation and not dependent on one or two strong hitters. A very athletic and energetic group of ladies,” said Burk.

Four-year starter Jenelle Nicholas (S, Sr.) has racked up many awards during her career. From being a two-time team MVP, to Sooner Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Nicholas has a great ability to set some very difficult sets. Coach Burk said, “she has a great eye for the court and sets accordingly.”

Defensively Jaiden Dixon (L, Sr.) is a proven player who makes incredibly difficult digs and absorbs the hard hits. Dixon is very competitive and leads the team from the back row. One of the hardest working players on the court is Bobbi Jo Frailey (OH/DS, Jr.). Frailey only plays one way, which is giving 100 percent of everything she has on every point. Very coachable and a positive influence on and off the court.

Lawessa Brigance (OH, Jr.) may be the smartest player on the court, every time she steps to the net. Coach Burk said of Brigance, “she is a great blocker and a very intentional hitter.” Another player at the net to watch is Audra Coblentz (MH, Sr.). Coblentz can climb the ladder and hammer big shots. Her play certainly contributes to the overall success of the team.

Other players to watch this season include Nahomi Talavera (S, Jr.), Natalie Talavera (OH, So.), Presley Inglett (OH, Jr.), Rachell Smith (RS, Jr.), and Bristol Inglett (MB, So.).
