Dakota Smith: I’m in 11th grade and play guard.
VYPE: Which current or former teammate impresses you the most?
DS: As a team, we all put in a lot of work, and it’s really the collective effort that impresses me the most. But for the sake of this question, I’d have to say Emma P. or Sara H. Both of them have stood out to me with their dedication, work ethic, and how they push themselves and the team to get better every day.
VYPE: What do you love most about being a student athlete at Vinita HS?
DS: I love being a student-athlete at VHS because it allows me to balance my passion for sports with my academic goals. The sense of community here is incredible.
VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?
DS: What I love how supportive and hardworking they are. We all have different strengths, but we push each other to improve and always have each other’s backs, both on and off the court. There’s a real sense of trust and camaraderie within the team, and we all celebrate each other’s successes.
“ ”VYPE: Do you belong to any clubs or groups at school?
DS: I’m a member of the National Honor Society. I’m also active in the Art Club, and the Spanish Club, where I get to explore the language and culture. As for sports, I’m part of the basketball, track, cross country, pom, and volleyball teams.
VYPE: What’s your favorite subject in school and do you have a favorite teacher?
DS: I really enjoy all of my classes, it’s hard to choose just one! I love learning in general, but I think the subjects that challenge me the most are the ones I enjoy the most. As for my favorite teacher, I’d say Ashton Antwine.
VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?
DS: After I graduate, I plan to attend college and pursue a degree in marine biology.
VYPE: What do you enjoy doing on in your free time?
DS: In my free time, I really enjoy creating art and going to the gym. I also enjoy going to the gym because it helps me stay in shape and is a good way to challenge myself physically.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite place to play and who has the toughest gym on the road?
DS: Every place has its own unique vibe, and I’ve enjoyed playing in all of them. But if I had to choose a favorite place to play, it would definitely be at a local court with my family.
VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life on or off the court?
DS: My mom and dad have been the biggest influences in my life, both on and off the court. My mom was an amazing athlete and played volleyball at a high level, so she’s always been a great example of hard work, dedication, and leadership. My dad, who was a multi-sport athlete, taught me the value of discipline, teamwork, and pushing through challenges. They both inspire me to give my best in everything I do, whether it’s sports or academics, and they’ve always supported me in pursuing my goals.”
