Bartlesville Bruin Baseball
Sounds of bats cracking balls can be heard in the batting cages as the Bruins begin prep for the upcoming season. Head coach Cody Price is looking forward to getting this season underway after competing with a very young team last year.
“We were young last year so we bring back a lot of starters. We also are excited about some of the upcoming talent in our freshman and sophomore classes. We have had a great fall and look forward to this upcoming spring season,” said coach Price.
One player everyone is familiar with is Barrett Merciez (Jr.) who returns at pitcher for the Bruins. Coach Price said the team plans to throw Merciez on certain days and play shortstop when he’s not pitching. Merciez will hit in the middle of the lineup and coach Price believes he has a bright future in baseball.
“ ”One of the exciting sophomores coach Price mentioned is Cooper Swaim. Swaim has the ability to play multiple positions for the Bruins including the corners of the infield and pitcher. Coach Price said Swaim is a big, strong player who has enjoyed a great fall and is ready to compete this spring.
Senior Kaden Romesurg makes his return as a starting outfielder and pitcher. Fast and athletic, Romesurg has worked extremely hard to prepare himself for his final season of prep baseball. Everyone involved with the team expects this to be a great season for Romesurg.
Not to be overlooked is Hunter Shea (Sr.). An upperclassman and a leader for the Bruins, Shea is all-in for his teammates and is known for being a high-character student-athlete and represents BHS in a positive manner. His contributions to the overall success of the team are crucial. Other returning starters include Jaxon Zaun, Sam Marcella and Damien Niko.
Noah Collins (Sr.) is a transfer and is expected to be the starting catcher this season.
The first pitch of the season is scheduled for March 1st vs. Tulsa NOAH, followed by two road games at Sapulpa and Owasso. The Bruins will attend the Gulf Coast Classic over spring break and will host the Bruin Classic from March 27th-29th. Other tournaments include the Pryor Festival on April 10th before post-season play begins in early May.
