Akiya Tsosie – Pryor Softball
Winning a state championship is at the top of the list for Pryor softball player Akiya Tsosie when it comes to achievements.
Tsosie was a member of the Tigers’ 2024 Class 5A fastpitch softball state championship team that went 32-7 overall under head coach Chell Looney.
But Tsosie has a lot of memories she enjoys sharing.
“My biggest achievement I’ve made this past season was winning state with my school team. I had great plays that helped us during our semifinal game, and a big play was when I made a diving play in the outfield to save an inning,” Tsosie said.
Another great achievement is making great plays that people remember you making. Umpires from this past weekend in OKC at Devon Park Fields remembered one of my plays where a grounder hit out to me in right field, and I threw the girl out at third base.

“Great achievements are being able to experience great ways to be able to play on the big fields and compete with many other talented players.”
Tsosie, who wants to heal and improve her strength, wants to improve on her throwing locations. She says her biggest strength is playing in the outfield.
“ ”“I feel like I’ve improved and located myself more to be able to play within the ball and have more control during a play,” she said. “My strengths on the field are when I get a play in the outfield and throw people out. Another strength I have is bringing my team up on the field and communicating with them.”
Tsosie, who has plans on attending college to further her education and hopes to continue playing softball, says her biggest influence is herself.
“My biggest influence is myself, competing and fighting against myself to improve my skills,” she said. “A lot of the competition is mental and physical, but it all depends on how you want to play if you want to get better or stay the same.”
Tsosie’s favorite moments are on the softball field.
“My proudest moments are being able to play the sport I love and having the support to keep thriving myself to be a better player each day. Making great big plays turns into memories of my biggest moments on the field,” she said.
