Nowata’s Chelo Prince
Chelo Prince is a track athlete for Nowata High School and is competing in his final year of prep athletics.
Prince started competing in track when he was 13. Competing for NHS and spending time with his teammates is something Prince loves to do.
“What makes NHS a good place for student-athlete is the coaches and the teachers are on the same page about student first then athlete. They are all willing to help with whatever the problem is and it’s a great community to be in with everyone being supportive,” said Prince. “The thing I love most about my teammates is no matter how well we know each other we continue to talk and make memories and just have fun whether it’s during practice or the middle of a meet.”
Several teammates have impressed Prince this season.
“The teammate that has surprised me most this season is Sebastian Brown, he’s gotten faster and faster over the years and with him I think we have a good chance in the 4×200 this year with his ability to keep the same speed over the 200m,” said Prince.
Building strong bonds with his teammates is important to Prince and several teammates have left a big impression on the senior, either with their jokes or how serious they are on the track.

“I would say Sebastian Brown again keeps everyone laughing, he makes dumb jokes and makes everyone laugh time after time again. I would say the most serious is Asiah Saxton,” said Prince.
For Prince, this season is about competing and making some great memories with his teammates.
“What I’m looking forward to most this season is to make the best of it and make memories with my friends on the team,” Prince said. “The strength of my skill set is I work hard and believe I’m the best in whatever I am doing. This year I have improved my running form and strength to be able to recover easily.”
Prince said his biggest accomplishment was qualifying for state in the 100-meters as a sophomore and receiving the Male Track Athlete of the Year award at NHS.
