Kansas Girls Track

As head coach Kelsey Barnwell turns her attention to helping a very young Kansas Comets track team succeed this season, in the process she has helped develop what could become one of the top teams in the region in future seasons.

With eight freshman and four sophomores, Kansas has one of the youngest rosters in the class, but regardless of their grade, this team has continued to show they are willing to put in the work to become true contenders.

“Our two-mile relay team has run a time of 11:12 this season. Members of that relay include Shawnee Steele, Gracie Woods, Jaycee Lawrence, and Lorelai Pilcher. Individual performances include Shawnee Steele in the open 400. Her PR is 67.2. Lorelai Pilcher and Shawnee Steele also compete in the open 800,” said coach Barnwell.

As the distance runners and the relay teams continue to mark improvements, coach Barnwell said she’s excited to see the times begin to drop as they get deeper into the season and log more time on the track during meets and in practice.

“Our team has improved at every single track meet this season. Our times have dropped at every meet, which is what you want to see.  This group of girls work hard every day at practice and are hungry to get better,” said coach Barnwell.

The roster for the 2025 girls track team includes, Shawnee Steele (Fr.), Lorelai Pilcher (So.), Jaycee Lawrence (So.), Gracie Woods (Fr.), Tatum Stopp (Fr.), Brezlyn Welch (Fr.), Adison Johnson (Fr.), Brooklyn Tyer (Fr.), Kamilla Smoke (Fr.), Gracie Barnett (So.), Nadalee Goedereis (Fr.), and Kabree Smith (So.).
