It’s a good time to be a member of the Lady Huskies softball team. Under head coach Stephanie Jensen, Pawhuska remains competitive while coming off another big season that witnessed the team bringing home some hardware in the form of a regional championship.
“We are optimistic about the success for this year. Losing six seniors leaves big shoes to fill but we have upperclassmen who are ready to take that job,” said coach Jensen.
One sophomore looking to make her presence felt on the field and at the plate is Emillie Curry. As an underclassman, Curry has played like a seasoned veteran and fills a leadership role coach Jensen needs on and off the field.
“Emillie can play anywhere and has a strong bat. Emillie’s leadership on the field is what sets her apart. She is confident, smart, and ready to lead this young PHS team. Her stats will speak for themselves,” said coach Jensen.
As coach Jensen mentioned, the team features several underclassmen who will likely have an impact on the overall success of the team this season. One is freshman Preslee Long. Long is a versatile player who is comfortable playing any spot on the field. An athletic player, Long will help this team in any way she can and is growing more consistent at the plate.
“Preslee has tons of athletic ability and is getting game-smarter every single day. Fast and full of athletic ability, Preslee is going to be one to watch the next few years,” said coach Jensen.
Like Long, Mylee Jensen is a freshman and someone who is looking to step into a role on the team and contribute. Her game is in the circle where she continues to make strides in becoming a go-to pitcher at the varsity level.
“She is a right-handed, rise ball pitcher, with a tough change up. She has the ability to move the ball around well and keep the hitters on their toes. She is definitely going to be one to watch as she grows,” said coach Jensen. “We have four seniors, four juniors, three sophomores, and five freshmen. We are loaded with pitching (4) and ready to get this season started.”
