Q&A with Jay’s Tandi Weeks
VYPE: What grade are you in this year and how long have you cheered for Jay?
Tandi Weeks: I’m in 10th grade this year. I cheered pee-wee for three years, and this is my fifth-year cheering for school.
VYPE: Who has been a big influence in your life?
TW: My grandparents because they have taken care of me ever since I was little, and they have not left my side.
VYPE: What is your favorite subject and who is your favorite teacher?
TW: My favorite subject this year is chemistry, and my favorite teacher is Stacey Stapleton.
VYPE: What clubs or groups are you involved in at school? What job do you have on the cheer squad?
TW: I’m in Educational Talent Search, I serve on the ETS leadership board, and I’m in the sophomore class. On the cheer squad, I am a base and can do a little tumbling.
VYPE: What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen while cheering for a game?
TW: One night during a stunt we did a flip, and our flyer almost fell to the ground.
VYPE: How much practice time do you spend practicing each week?
TW: I spend about 7–10 hours practicing each week.
VYPE: What teammate has left an impression on you? Why?
TW: My teammate last year was Demi Duffield. When she graduated, I was sad because she always lifted me up and we had a lot of fun together.
VYPE: What makes being a student-athlete at Jay special for you?
TW: Being a Jay athlete is special because I get to show my true self. I used to be the shyest person around, and now I’ve grown into a nice, sometimes loud, and grateful person.
VYPE: What are your plans for after you graduate?
TW: I plan to go to college, possibly NSU, and major in business. I’ve started doing nails, hair, and makeup, and I would like to build my own business.
