Commerce’s Juan Gomez
As the football season presses forward, teams are preparing for their next opponent and district play. The Commerce Tigers under head coach Logan Cawyer are off to a 1-1 start and the players are excited to continue competing and racking up wins.
Juan Gomez is part of that group looking to do something special with his team. Gomez is a junior at CHS, playing on both sides of the ball.
“I play wide receiver on offense and cornerback on defense,” said Gomez.
Players like Gomez, Seth Bonham, Brody Jones and others are building a team with great chemistry and a family type atmosphere. For Gomez, it’s something he loves about being on this team and competing for a common goal.
“What I love most about our team is our chemistry and companionship,” Gomez said. “Winning or losing, what I enjoy is the overall experience of playing with my team.”
Also a member of the track and powerlifting teams, Gomez said he draws inspiration from the people he is closest to in his life. Their example keeps Gomez driving for his own success on and off the field.
“Both of my parents are inspirational for all the hard work they do on a daily basis,” said Gomez.
In the classroom, Gomez said his favorite subject is English and one of his favorite teachers is coach Clapp. But whether it’s in the classroom or on the field, Gomez hopes to lead by example for future students.
“I want to be remembered for our effort to become better was always there,” said Gomez.
Gomez said his teammates are great to be around. The different personalities help make the CHS football team what it is and a few like to keep their teammates laughing and having fun.
“The teammate who keeps everyone laughing is Alex Chaney or myself,” said Gomez.
When he’s not in school or on the field, you can usually find Gomez in the gym working out. As for life after high school, Gomez said he is deciding between two careers that interest him.
“After graduation I plan to either enlist in the military or work on an oil rig,” said Gomez.
