Kansas’ Kaybree Blackbird – Softball Spotlight

Kansas’ Kaybree Blackbird

Kaybree Blackbird is a junior at Kansas High School where she plays first base for the varsity softball team. Blackbird said her teammates are an amazing group of people.

“What I love most about my team is how great we all get along with each other. My teammates are just an amazing group of girls. Always keeping each other hyped up for the game, no matter what situation we are in,” said Blackbird.

Also a member of the Beta Club, FFA and FCA, Blackbird said she started playing softball at the age of eight. Blackbird said she is inspired by a family member.

“The person who most inspires me would be my nana, Leslie King, who about two years ago had a stroke after losing my Grandpa due to cancer a couple of months earlier,” Blackbird said. “She has shown me that no matter what obstacles we have to face, we never give up. We keep going not only for ourselves but for others as well as family members. She kept going and has continued to keep going, she is amazing and truly my inspiration.”

This season Blackbird said the team is looking to have fun, love the game and grow as a team.

In the classroom, Blackbird said her favorite subject and teacher go together.

“My favorite subject in school would be math, I just love how equations always have an answer, they may not be pretty, but they work. My favorite teacher this year would be my math teacher Mrs. Carrie Steele, she has taught me much in math,” said Blackbird.

Away from school, Blackbird said she enjoys playing pickleball.

“I also enjoy going to the indoor late at night with my shortstop and best friend, Lorelai.”

After high school, Blackbird would like to play softball at the next level.

“While playing I would like to study to become an ultrasound tech of any sort,” said Blackbird.
