Bluejacket’s Colton Cochran
By Bryce McKinnis
No moment is too big for Bluejacket High School sophomore Colton Cochran.
Cochran stars at quarterback for the Chieftains football team, shortstop and pitcher for the baseball team and point-forward for the basketball team. He’s also a proud member of the Bluejacket FFA program.
“My goal is always to be present and push myself 100 percent,” said Cochran. “Everyone should know that I’m a funny guy, I’m nice, but on the field or court, I’m a leader.”
That challenge was never greater than at the Mickey Mantle Classic last year. In one of the state’s most prestigious baseball tournaments, Cochran pitched a complete game. The outcome was maybe his best performance yet.
“It taught me how much leadership I have put into sports that whatever I do, everyone was there to back me up,” Cochran said. “My favorite accomplishment would probably be winning MVP at the Mickey Mantle.”
Whenever he steps onto the court or field, Cochran sees his chief responsibility as rallying the team, guiding his teammates to success.
“I feel as if leadership always came naturally to me,” Cochran said. “I want to be someone people look up to for leadership and achievements.”
Perhaps the only mental challenge that seriously challenges Cochran is considering his future. Between his talent in football, basketball and baseball, his choices won’t be limited, but with his love for all three, it will be tough to specialize. Admittedly, he leans toward a future on the diamond.
“I have two years to think about it, but my goals are to better myself and make it to the Majors someday,” Cochran said.
