Pryor’s Ava Miller – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Rhett Minson, State Farm

Pryor’s Ava Miller

When the cheerleaders take the field every Friday night during football season, most of the crowd does not know how much hard work went into the routines or the countless hours spent learning to tumble. Many fans take it for granted, but the cheerleaders courageously step onto the field anyway and perform to their best ability. Leading the crowd and student section during the entire game.

For Pryor’s Ava Miller, it’s been her experience as a cheerleader during high school and it’s an experience she would not change. The bonds and friendships are special to Miller and being on the field for a Friday night game is part of what makes all of the hard work worth it.

Miller started her cheer journey when she entered her first year of high school.
“I started cheering my freshman year. I’m a senior now,” Miller said. “The thing I love the most about my team is how close we are with each other and our coaches; we are like family.”

Another factor most people don’t consider are the jobs or “positions” each team member will play. Miller was given a special honor this season and it’s something she is grateful to have.
“I am captain of my team and a base during stunting,” Miller said. “Being on the cheer team has taught me leadership skills and discipline in my everyday life. Along with how to push myself to do difficult things.”

Miller also cheers during basketball season and attends classes for cosmetology at Northeast Tech. Once she has her diploma in hand, Miller plans to continue working in cosmetology.
“After I graduate, I will be a licensed cosmetologist and I will be attending college to get a business degree,” said Miller.

For the senior, her source of inspiration comes from someone close to home.
“My biggest inspiration in life is my dad. He is the hardest worker I know. No matter what he is going through he is always putting others first,” said Miller.

Away from the cheer room and the field, Miller said she enjoys working out and spending time with her family.
