Bartlesville’s Jay Wasemiller Carrying the No.1 Bag for the Bruins – Presented by Patriot Auto

Bartlesville High School junior Jay Wasemiller has already carved out a place for himself in the Bruins’ proud golf tradition, but he measures success by more than numbers on a scorecard. A varsity golfer, Wasemiller points first to what he and his teammates have accomplished together.

“Winning regionals last year, making state as a team and placing ninth at state my freshman year are my most memorable moments,” he said. Those postseason runs helped solidify Bartlesville’s status as a consistent contender in Class 6A boys golf.

On the course, Wasemiller leans on a mindset shaped by years of competition. “Sports has taught me to trust your process and don’t let other people dictate how you think,” he said. That approach has fueled his rise as both a steady scorer and a team leader for the Bruins.

He credits a strong support system, starting in the classroom. His favorite teacher is his former seventh- and eighth-grade math instructor, Mrs. McCauley. “She is someone I’ve known my whole life and is like a second mom and to have her as a teacher was awesome,” Wasemiller said.

Younger golfers in Bartlesville are also part of his motivation. “Younger kids who play golf and look up to me inspire me,” he said. “I want to show them that they can do the same things that I’m doing or maybe accomplish more than I have.”

Wasemiller is quick to share credit. “Shoutout to my mom and dad and everyone at my home course who are always supporting me,” he said.
