Wesleyan Christian’s Savannah Cox – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Conoco Phillips

Wesleyan Christian School’s sophomore Savannah Cox is already emerging as a steady leader for the Mustangs’ varsity cheer squad.

Cox, a 10th grader, serves as a co-captain and a base in Wesleyan Christian’s stunts, roles that demand strength, focus and trust. She said her approach to leadership is shaped by the people around her, especially her cheer coach, Sydney.

“My cheer coach Sydney, she is always positive and she has achieved many goals by working hard,” Cox said. “She inspires me to keep pushing and to work hard toward my own goals.”

On the sidelines, Cox is known for her consistency and encouragement, but she said her favorite part of cheer happens in the moments between the games.

“The thing I enjoy most about the cheer team is being able to hang out and spend time with the girls on the squad,” she said.

Away from the court, Cox brings the same dedication to the classroom and her hobbies. Her favorite subject is science, and she names Mrs. Conrad as her favorite teacher. When she gets free time, she enjoys playing her saxophone and crocheting, pursuits that allow her to unwind while still learning and creating.

Cox said cheer and athletics have already taught her lessons she expects to carry into adulthood.

“Athletics has taught me how to be a teammate who can work with other people,” she said. “That’s something I know I’ll need later in life, no matter what I do.”

When it comes to teammates, Cox said she can’t pick just one who has influenced her the most.

“All of my teammates have left impressions on me, they all have shown me the love of Christ,” she said.

For Wesleyan Christian, Cox’s blend of quiet leadership, hard work and genuine care for those around her makes her a key piece of the varsity cheer program’s present — and its future.
