BLUEJACKET CHIEFTAINS
Coach: DOUG WINTERS
6-5
Bluejacket comes off a playoff season at 6-5 with roughly 80 percent of its roster returning for head coach Doug Winters in his second year at the helm. With a high percentage of starters back on both sides of the ball and confidence from last fall’s postseason run, the Chieftains expect to take another step forward in 2026.
On offense, Bluejacket will use multiple formations with a balanced run-pass approach, taking advantage of good skill personnel in both the backfield and at receiver. Junior quarterback Colton Cochran (6-2, 165) returns after a standout season as the C-3 first-team All-District quarterback, throwing for more than 1,700 yards while also rushing for over 1,000 yards. Sophomore running back/athlete Gavyn Nair (6-2, 225) adds another explosive weapon after rushing for more than 1,100 yards, catching passes for 500 yards and even throwing for five touchdowns, giving the Chieftains multiple ways to stress defenses. With six offensive starters returning, this unit has the experience and versatility to be dangerous again.
Defensively, Bluejacket will lean on multiple sets and the versatility of its personnel to mix and match fronts and coverages. Nair doubles as a dominant linebacker after earning C-3 Defensive Player of the Year honors with more than 100 tackles, while sophomore defensive end Brent Chandler (6-2, 185) returns as a disruptive edge rusher with 61 tackles. Senior strong safety Trent Laue (5-10, 135) and Cochran at free safety round out a seasoned secondary, with Cochran serving as a two-way standout and one of the team’s leading tacklers with multiple pick-sixes. With six defensive starters back, the Chieftains like their chances to be aggressive and flexible week to week.
