OUTLOOK

Austin Eastman – Dewey High School

The anticipation for basketball season is in full swing at Dewey High School. Last season coach Lance Knight and the Bulldoggers gave it a good run, but with the return of VYPE Top 100 selectee Karson Johnson (6-1, Jr.), the excitement is growing.

“Karson started as a sophomore for us last season. He got better every day and by the end of the season was one of our leading scorers and top rebounder’s. He was also selected 1st Team All-Conference. Karson is a leader on and off the court and is always working on his game, he is also a three-sport athlete,” said Knight.

Johnson averaged 10 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game last year. Another player looking to get in the scoring mix is Kooper Crawford (6-3, Jr.) who averaged 9.0 points with 8.0 rebounds. Crawford could have games where he puts up a double-double and is the leading scorer for the night. Guard Austin Eastman (5-10, So.) will look to get on the board as well after averaging 7.0 points and 3.0 assists per game as a freshman. Eastman came off the bench last season and had several big games including a 27-point night that witnessed him hitting seven 3-pointers.

One underclassman to watch is Jay Murguia (5-10, Fr.) at guard. The staff is excited to get Murguia at the varsity level. A left-handed guard, Murguia could be a factor for the Dewey offense this season.

Zach Renfroe – Sophomore – Dewey High School

Zach Renfroe (6-0, So.) will play point guard giving the team a natural leader in the backcourt. Also look for Tra Hicks (6-3, Jr.) at forward. Hicks brings a tremendous work ethic to the floor and a “no excuses” attitude.

Tra Hicks – Junior – Dewey High School

Other players to watch include Lathe Griggs (6-1, Jr.), Cooper Wood (6-0, Sr.), Jaden Gray (6-4, Sr.), and Scott Horton (6-1, Jr.).
