Verdigris’ Averie Deegan

VYPE: Averie, what grade are you in and when did you start playing soccer?

Averie Deegan: I’m in 10th grade and have been playing soccer since I was six years old.
 

VYPE: What position are you playing and what are the strengths and most improved areas of your game?
 AD: I am a forward. My strength is by ability to read the field and anticipate the next play. I’d say my speed has improved the most.
 

VYPE: What do you love most about being a student-athlete at VHS?
 AD: Verdigris is a close community so whenever I’m feeling down, I can always trust that people will always have my back.
 

VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities at school?
 AD: I am apart of student council.
 

VYPE: What do you love most about your teammates?

AD: I love how much fun we have together. We’re all close and when I’m feeling down, I can always trust them to give me a good laugh!
 

VYPE: What would you say is your biggest accomplishment on the field?

AD: Scoring 24 goals my freshman year!
 

VYPE: How do you mentally prepare for competition?

AD: When facing competition, I like to relax and take some time alone to mentally prepare and get myself in a good mindset.

VYPE: What is your goal for life after high school?

AD: My goal is to play college soccer.
 

VYPE: What does the support you receive from everyone mean to you and are you a member of a tribe? AD: Having support from the people around me means the world. I couldn’t imagine a world with different parents. They put so much time and money into making me a better soccer player and I am forever grateful for the opportunities they’ve given me. I am a member of Cherokee Nation.
